Light and Shadow

There is nothing quite like the sunshine that comes with Spring...

...it is the kind of light that makes everything seem right in the world...

The afternoon light is my favourite...

rich and soul-filling,

and gilding everything in a sheath of gold...

But I also delight in the shadows,

pockets deep and hidden that the light cannot catch...

...somehow, the darkness makes the colours seem brighter...

...more vibrant and alive...

And so, with light and shadows on my mind,

I created my *Starry Night* Earrings...

...like petals plucked from a starry night sky...

...made of silver oxidized to a shade of darkest slate...

...and gleaming moonstone cabochons filled with light.

Made for girl who loves to cast her dreams to the night sky :-)

I love telling a story with metal and stone...

...but I also love telling your story,

weaving your words into a tangible thread,


piece by piece,


moment by moment.


It always begins with an idea or two...

(or three...)



(initial design sketches)


...and ends with a meaningful, wearable tale...





This set tells a story of old Serbia,


of churches rich with decoration and history,


ornate facades and masterful craftsmanship...








But it also tells a story of a daughter's love for her mother,


a bond all at once enduring and eternal...






A gift,


a token...





...a tribute to a woman admired and adored...

To know that these pieces will be worn and loved by a wonderful woman


as she makes memories and enjoys moments,


and who will, 


in turn, 


add her own words to this story,


makes me very, very happy...

What is making you happy this week, my friends?

E is for Easter...and Earrings

Once upon a time, there were two bunnies...

And then there was one!

(Erm...minus a couple of ears...!)

I hope your Easter was filled with as much foil-tearing, chocolate-smearing, bunny-eating goodness as ours was! :-)

A few new pairs of earrings have (finally!) made their way into my Etsy shop...

The *Treasures of the Souk* Earrings in Tangerine

and...

a ready-to-ship pair of *Lost Medallion* Earrings

I wear my own pair of these earrings ALL the time,

usually with my new vintage cowboy boots...

...which were a surprise 'just because' gift from my gorgeous husband.

What more could a girl want?! :-)

New to the shop

Despite being struck down with the flu,

(and having two sick little munchkins to boot)

it has been a rather productive week in the studio...

...and I have finally been able to update the shop with some new listings!

The Petite *Desert Flower* Rings I showed you last week are finished and listed...

They look good enough to eat!

The Azure ring is a fraction under a US ring size 7...

The Saffron ring is a US ring size 6.5...

...and the Tangerine ring is a fraction under a US ring size 8...

I also finally got around to listing these *Treasures of the Souk* Earrings which I finished a few weeks ago... 


...with the help of my gorgeous husband!

I gave him a lesson in Soldering 101...

he is a natural with the torch...

he didn't melt anything...

and he was most definitely the teachers favourite ;-)

Torn...

I think this word perfectly sums up how I've been feeling for the past week...

...torn...

This is not necessarily a bad thing!

I'm torn between wanting to continue with my *Moroccan Odyssey* Collection...

and wanting to start something new,

something fresh.

I bore easily...do you?

I'm certainly not done with my Moroccan collection...

there are still many, many more ideas waiting to be brought to life!

Yet, I want a change.

I want to try something new.

So, tonight I did.

In between cooking dinner and packing for a 3-day trip interstate tomorrow (well, I was procrastinating on that packing bit), I taught myself how to make a basic prong setting...

This is just the beginning,

there is much work yet to be done...

but can you see where I'm going with this?

I felt revitalised, energised seeing it come together...

...a buzz of exhilaration as I watched the solder flow...

(and I held my breathe ever so tightly because I was certain I would melt the wire!)

And now I'm torn because I have to leave this unfinished while we go away for three days!

(ARGHHH!!!)

But, good things come to those who wait, non? ;-)

...and they were supposed to go into the shop...

...so that someone else could love wearing them just as much as I do...
